Getaways and vacations with your partner are the perfect way to grow in your relationship and strengthen your connection as a couple. Exploring together, trying new things, and tuning out regular life are important aspects of a couples getaway, and you’re going to need the perfect plan to get your vacation started.
What do you want to get out of your trip?
There are countless types of getaways, each with its own vibe to fit every sort of couple. Thus, it’s crucial when planning a couple's vacation to decide what you want to get out of the trip as a partnership. Some getaways are for relaxing, some are for exploring, and some are for spicing up your sex life. There are endless opportunities at your feet, and talking through what you want to get out of your vacation will help you decide the location of your stay.
Choosing a location
We’ve all been in the situation of trying to decide where to eat with a significant other. It can be just as, if not more, difficult when planning a vacation together. Here are a couple of ideas to try to make picking a getaway location easier:
Play the Yes/No/Maybe game. Make two sets of three cards that say “yes,” “no,” and “maybe” on them. Go through a list of vacation spots and hold up your cards. If you both say no, that location is out. If you both say yes, put it in a “love” pile. If either of you holds up “maybe,” put that location in a “maybe” pile. Once you’re done, this will open up the conversation a bit more after you both know your favorite and least favorite locations.
Another tactic is to each compile a list of places you would like to go, and go through each list to discuss together in detail. Weigh out the pros and cons, talk about your budget, and decide together.
Work out the details
Now that you’ve picked a location, there are some other things you might want to work out beforehand. A good thing to plan beforehand is a budget. How much money are you willing to spend together on lodgings, eating out/groceries, and activities/souvenirs? Do research on restaurants, activities, and attractions in your chosen vacation spot, and discuss what you plan on doing together-- an itinerary of sorts!
When thinking about lodgings, decide if you want to stay in a hotel or a rented space. For hotels, Booking, Trivago, and Expedia are great websites to help you book a room. If you’d rather rent a home or apartment to stay in for your trip, there are plenty of options online, including Airbnb, Vrbo, FlipKey, HomeToGo, and TripAdvisor.
On a budget?
If spending money on a vacation just isn’t in the cards for you right now, that doesn’t mean that you can’t have a getaway with your partner! Plan an at-home staycation for as long as you want. There are plenty of things you can do to make your vacation special.
Change up your living space to make it feel new and exciting. Build a fort or buy decorations and activities online; the possibilities are endless! Explore your city, or just stay at home and take a much-needed break. Remember, just because you’re at home doesn’t mean you need to be doing work. Really take a vacation; take time with each other to reset, and make your relationship feel like the honeymoon phase again.
