Dating is hard. But during a pandemic? Challenging. Not to mention, masks are just as deceiving as beer goggles.

For the past year, our lives have been put on hold. We expected to be back to normalcy in the summer months, but that didn't happen. We had plans to travel the world, but instead are left with no room to meet anyone else besides the cashier at our local grocery stores. Now that we’ve come to terms with this new way of living, why not try to dive back into the dating pool? But, how do you actually date during a pandemic?

In a perfect world, I'd say put on something that makes you feel confident and head to Whole Foods, (because let's be honest, we've all seen the most attractive people there). As you're both reaching for the last carton of overpriced oat milk, your eyes lock and you fall madly in love. But this isn't a perfect world, or some Nora Ephron movies, this is reality. Fortunately for you, there are options.

With everything online, of course, virtual dating had to make its debut. Dating apps have become the new bars for meeting people. According to Pew Research Center, over 48% of people ages 18-29 use dating apps more frequently since the beginning of 2020. And with more time on people's hands, the more likely you are to get responses. Plus everyone on the app is there merely for the same reason: the pandemic upended their in-person dating life.

Start by striking up a conversation because what do you have to lose? Invite them for a virtual drink- through Facetime or Zoom, both of which may be a little unconventional but effective. Pour yourself a gin and tonic, grab a deck of 20 Questions and fire away. This, of course, makes it easier to get to know them without any of those dreaded awkward silences. Then, when you feel comfortable meeting in person,  you can hop on over to Official. We’ve got you covered with a curated library of dates for you and your partner.

Now is not the time for mundane dating. You don't get out as much as you use to, so make your time out count. Looking to dine out? Many places have turned their sidewalks into full-on restaurants, making you almost forget you're outside. I mean, how can you not love eating in an igloo? Now is the time to become one with nature because even events such as comedy shows, movie screenings, and live music have ventured to the outside world. You can even get fancy and pack a mini charcuterie board for you both to enjoy. And with to-go cocktails on the rise, park dates have never been more fun.

The pandemic has forced people to get creative and find alternative ways to date. You might not know how that person would act at a crowded party but you will find out how that person handles a crisis. Despite how much the pandemic has taken from us, it hasn't taken the joy of a new relationship or the rekindling of an old one.
